metaSOFT International
Laboratory Information System

From order to result — automated, traceable, ASTM-compliant.

metaSOFT LIS is a full-featured laboratory module within the metaSOFT clinical platform — automating the complete workflow across clinical chemistry, haematology, microbiology, immunology and anatomical pathology, with native bi-directional analyzer interfaces and barcode-driven specimen chain-of-custody.

Laboratory
Precision diagnostics

Automated. Traceable. Accreditation-ready.

Benefits

What your laboratory gains on day one.

Faster turnaround

Auto-verification rules release routine results in seconds; STAT critical values reach the clinician before the patient returns to the ward.

Zero transcription errors

Bi-directional analyzer interfaces import results automatically — no manual keying, no transposition mistakes between instrument and chart.

Full specimen traceability

Barcode chain-of-custody tracks every tube from collection through storage and disposal — audit-ready at any time.

Accreditation-ready QC

CAP / ISO 15189-compliant Westgard rule logs and Levey-Jennings charts generated automatically, available on demand for inspection.

Lower reagent cost

FEFO issue rules and minimum-stock alerts prevent both stockout and expiry loss across all lab sections, reducing wastage write-offs.

Instant critical alerts

Critical values trigger SMS to the ordering clinician the moment a result is validated — no phone chain, no delay, full audit trail.

Capabilities

Purpose-built for clinical and reference laboratories.

Order entry & routing

Test orders originate from metaSOFT HMS/Clinic, external referrals, or walk-in reception — each automatically routed to the correct laboratory section and printed as a worklist. Priority (STAT, routine) flags cascade to the analyzer queue and TAT monitoring dashboard.

Barcode specimen tracking

Every tube receives a system-generated barcode at collection. Full chain-of-custody — collection time, collector ID, transport log, accession, aliquoting, storage location and disposal — is maintained and searchable. Specimen rejection and repeat-collection workflows are built in.

Analyzer integration (ASTM / HL7)

Bi-directional communication with analyzers via ASTM LIS2-A2, HL7 2.x and proprietary serial/TCP drivers. Sample IDs, test profiles and demographic data are downloaded to the instrument; results are imported and mapped automatically, eliminating manual transcription errors.

Result validation & QC

Configurable auto-verification rules release routine results without technologist review. Levey-Jennings QC charts, Westgard multi-rule alerts, delta checks, reference-range flags and critical-value notifications hold results for review before they reach clinicians.

Microbiology workflow

Structured culture-and-sensitivity module with organism master, zone and MIC interpretation, antibiogram generation by ward and organism, and EUCAST/CLSI breakpoint libraries. Cumulative sensitivity reports support infection control and antimicrobial stewardship programmes.

Result delivery

Verified results publish directly to the HMS/Clinic EMR, patient portal, and referring physician portal. Critical values trigger SMS to the ordering clinician. PDF reports are print-ready with configurable headers and digital signatures. Every delivery event is audit-logged.

Standards & Integration

HL7 v2 & FHIR R4 · ASTM / LIS2-A2 · bi-directional analyzer interfaces · LOINC result coding · CAP / ISO 15189 audit trails · native integration with metaSOFT HMS, RIS and PACS.

Part of the metaSOFT Suite

LIS is a clinical module of metaSOFT — designed to operate inside the same platform as HMS, RIS, and PACS.

metaSOFT LIS is not a third-party integration bolted onto the hospital system — it is a native module that shares the patient master, encounter records, physician credentials, and insurance engine with metaSOFT HMS. A test ordered by a physician in HMS appears on the lab worklist in seconds; results return to the clinical chart automatically, with no manual transcription or file-transfer step.

The LIS also feeds metaSOFT RIS (cross-ordering between lab and radiology for complex pathways) and ERP (reagent procurement, cost-per-test analysis, and billing reconciliation). For reference labs, the LIS can operate as a standalone product with its own patient registration, billing, and referring-physician portal — while still being ready to connect to any HMS installation later.
